General
Q: I have an idea for a webinar. Who do I contact?
A: If you have an idea for a webinar topic, we’d love to hear it! Contact the CAGC and you will be directed to the right place.
Q: What different webinars are offered? How are they organized? How many webinars are there?
A: Since 2019, the Education Committee has worked on bringing more CEC and CEU opportunities to CAGC Members. Initially this involved TWO separate and distinct Webinar SERIES.
-
The first series is planned, organized, and hosted by the CAGC Education Committee. Each year there is a new theme for our series. We try to have between 4-6 webinars per series. For each series we obtain CEC and CEU approval. CECs are free for current members. CECs for non-members and CEUs for anyone who requires them can be obtained for a fee. More information can be found below.
-
The Education Committee was previously involved in the planning of the CCMG/CanGard Leading Strand Webinar Series and we offered CECs and CEUs for the 2019/2020 series. The CAGC Education Committee is no longer involved directly with this series but you can still get CECs if you attend any of the sessions by submitting an application for an unrecognized educational session. For more information about the CanGard Leading Strand Series, please click here.
**AT THE END OF THIS FAQ, we have included a list of all the talks that have occurred since April 2019.
In 2022 we started using Express Evaluations to administer the evaluations and quizzes and it is up to you to download your certificates in order to keep track of your CECs. The CAGC will no longer be sending out certificates for CECs.
Continuing Education Credits
Q: Can anyone receive CECs/CEUs?
A: Anyone is welcome to participate in our webinars; however, we will only provide CECs and CEUs to individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Has passed session quiz(zes) with a minimum score of 80% (maximum 3 attempts)
- Has viewed at least 75% of the webinar (i.e., the participant was logged into a single webinar broadcast for 45 minutes of a 60 minute session). We are able to verify time spent within each webinar event. For CAGC members wishing to claim NSGC CEUs, there is a $25 USD fee. For non-CAGC members wishing to claim NSGC CEUs, there will be a $75 CAD charge.
Q: Do I need to attend all talks within a series to get credits?
A: No, you can attend as many as you are able. You will only be credited for the number of sessions you attend. For example, if a series has four talks and you attend only one of them, you will receive 1 CEC/0.1 CEU.
Q: Are webinar recordings available? Are these eligible for CECs/CEUs?
Yes, webinar recordings are available. These recorded webinars are eligible for CECs and CEUs, pending the same criteria listed above are met (quiz passed with a grade of 80%+, attendee has viewed a minimum of 75% of the webinar content).
Q: When will I get my CECs?
A: If you have passed the quiz(es), and attended one or more webinars within a particular series you will receive a Certificate of Attendance. Please save a copy of each certificate for your records. An application to the CBGC to recognize this series for CECs will be submitted at the END of the webinar series. Further information will be distributed to all webinar attendees as it becomes available.
Q: How will I get my CECs?
A: All CAGC Members who attended ANY of the webinars within a particular series and passed the quiz(es) will receive a Certificate of Attendance for CECs via their Express Evaluations portal after each webinar. Please save a copy of each certificate for your records. An email will be circulated to all attendees at the end of the series to confirm that CECs have been approved by the CBGC and the total number awarded to each attendee, based on the criteria listed above.
Q: When will I get my CEUs?
A: If you would ALSO like to receive a CEU Certificate from the NSGC (for ABGC recertification) for attending a webinar series, you must complete payment of a “CEU fee”. This fee is collected at the conclusion of a series. This fee is $25 USD for CAGC members. The fee is $75 CAD for non-CAGC members. The NSGC CEUs are also processed at the end of each year’s webinar series (typically November/ December). Requests for CEUs or CECs will not be processed until a series has concluded.
Q: How will I get my CEU certificate?
A: At the end of each webinar series for which we have obtained NSGC CEU approval, we submit the name, email, NSGC ID, and total contact hours earned for that specific series to NSGC. NSGC staff will update the genetic counsellor’s online CEU portal with this information. This is retained at the NSGC for five years.
Q: What is the fee for CEUs/CECs?
For CAGC members wishing to claim CECs ONLY: No fee
For CAGC members wishing to claim CEUs ONLY or CEUs and CECs: $25 USD
For non-CAGC members: $75 CAD
Post-Session Communication (Quizzes and Evaluations)
Q: How and when will I receive the post-session quiz?
A: Within 24 hours after each webinar, you will receive an email directing you to the Express Evaluations portal, which is now used for all post-webinar activities. This email comes from GoToWebinar via the CAGC Office, so make sure you add that email to your safe list. To log-in to the Express Evaluations portal, you must use the email address you have registered with the CAGC (regardless of which address you used to register for the webinar). If you have never logged in before, the password is set to CAGC (all capital letters).
Q: What score must I receive to pass?
A: 80% (4 of 5 questions).
Q: How many times can I take the quiz?
A: You have three attempts to take the quiz.
Q: How long do I have to take the quiz?
A: We keep the quiz modules open until the conclusion of a series, so if you have participated in a webinar and are eligible to receive credits (see above), then you can complete the quiz at your convenience until a closing date which is communicated shortly after the last webinar within that series has occurred.
Q: Do I need to complete the evaluation?
A: As part of the NSGC CEU process, we are required to submit evaluations of our content. We appreciate everyone’s time to answer these quick surveys. They are not mandatory to receive CEUs/CECs, but are much appreciated!
